REPLAY: First Livestream of the Year!

Crissi Cochrane

Tonight, I played my first live-stream of 2021! There was beer! There were clap samples (sometimes)! And I discovered my long-lost cigarette stash!

We set up our studio differently this time - it’s a big production to make it look the way it did last year, so we opted for a simpler set-up this time, which unfortunately meant that Mike didn’t get a mic. He spent most of the stream upstairs playing Rocket League, dashing downstairs just in time to hit the applause sample (and randomly playing the trumpet sometimes?) and didn’t always make it back downstairs in time to hit the clap sample. Ha! I did miss getting to banter with him, but it turns out I excel at self-centered rambling, and I got to talk about Adeila’s birthday, ripping apart some rotten benches, reading all 418,000 words of Gone With The Wind in one week, all the news out of the Soul City Music Co-op, and - of course - my animated music video.

The most fun part - and definitely one of my highlights from all of my livestreams ever - was when I did my show and tell with my beautiful hat from The Saucy Milliner. Upon opening the hat box for the first time in years, I discovered that I had hidden a stash of cigarettes in there!! I was actually really excited to find them, since sometimes when I’m in an especially black mood, I find myself desperately wanting a cigarette and not knowing how to get some in a pandemic (and not wanting to have an entire box of cigarettes on-hand either - too much temptation - I used to smoke pretty regularly when I lived in Halifax, about a pack every three days). There are only six left in there, and I think the box must be from back when Mike used to work at Ray & Kim’s Convenience in downtown Windsor, so they’re certainly NOT fresh… but I’m still really excited at the thought of sitting on my porch at night and smoking a cigarette. Maybe even later tonight!! (It will probably be terrible and I will regret my decision halfway through and then I’ll have to deep-clean my mouth.)

Thank you so much to the folks who watched, shared, commented, and donated to my Indiegogo campaign (which was my donation platform of choice tonight)! This one was a little bit bumpy, but it just reminded me of the importance of doing these regularly, so that I can be ready when we finally get back to in-person gigs later this year. I’ll announce a July livestream date soon. Until then, thank you! Love you!
