Darling, Darling & Pretty Alright up in the Shop

Crissi Cochrane

Shortly after I released Little Sway, I started trying to sweep my earlier, folk-tinged releases under the rug. I had them removed from all major digital platforms, and I think I even went so far as to go around YouTube and submit takedown requests for videos that used my music from those earlier days, hoping that, should anyone look me up, they’d find only the latest and greatest. I did, however, keep Pretty Alright and Darling, Darling up on Bandcamp, thinking they’d only be discovered there by people who were really digging deep (and that there should be some reward for that!).

But since then, I’m feeling much less insecure about my body of work, and really happy with the growth and progress that my discography makes plain.

I’ve also been thinking a lot about Bandcamp lately. Since the pandemic started, they’ve been doing occasional days of forgoing their revenue shares, or donating their revenue shares to important causes. And while that is all great stuff, it’s gotten myself (and a lot of others) to think about the significant cut of sales that Bandcamp takes from artists every other day of the year. I do appreciate the platform that Bandcamp provides, but I’ve decided to no longer give Bandcamp the exclusive on my early folk releases, and have instead moved those digital downloads over to my own shop.

The two releases are still up on my Bandcamp (for now - that might change), but I’m hoping to encourage folks to purchase digital downloads from me directly. All of my music is available for digital download - that includes singles and my Christmas EP. There are unfortunately some upload limitations with SquareSpace, the platform that hosts this website, so I can’t upload WAV files for longer releases, BUT if anyone has a problem with this, I would be more than happy to send you the WAV files by other means. Just let me know!

I’m thinking I might even start to sweeten the pot by adding some digital downloads that will be exclusive to the shop - like some of the cover tunes I’ve recorded, or some of the custom love songs that I’ve shared to promote that sideline.

I suppose this is also a good time to let you know, too, that I’ll be adding a new digital download to the shop this Friday, when I release the "Only You & Me” Rel McCoy Remix! It’ll be available on all the major retailers too, of course, but once again… the maximum support goes to me when you get it here. Thanks!
