REPLAY: Custom Love Songs Live, May 14, 2020

I just finished my second live-stream of custom love songs, and I feel relieved! And so good about having challenged myself to do this! I’ve really been digging deep in these live-streams to give you a reason to come back and hear something new each time, either by playing older tunes of mine or learning new songs altogether. It’s been two months of live-streaming now, I’ve played eight hour-long concerts, and I haven’t played any song more than three times in all of those broadcasts.
To prepare for this stream, I went back to the questionnaires that each person completed in commissioning me to write their custom love song, revisiting the things that informed the song, and made little notes to share in the programme. There were little ties that I had completely forgotten about, little lyrical moments that had held a lot of importance to the people they’re about. I also reached out to all these people to let them know that I’d be playing their song, so I approached this show with a real nervous, excited energy, hoping to do these songs right! I’m pleased to say that I did my hair and makeup with zero cursing tonight (a rare thing), and I didn’t try on ten different outfits and almost cry off all my make-up 10 minutes before going live (a very common thing). I feel a renewed sense of connection with these songs and these people now. I think all this love was exactly what I needed today. ❤️

So now, I’m off until Saturday, May 23rd! That stream will be my ACHF-funded performance. I’m still deciding on the repertoire for that evening, but I’m hoping to debut my upcoming single “Can We Go Back” (coming out everywhere July 17!). In the meantime, I’ll be working on another custom love song, obviously practicing for the 23rd, and filming a live-performance video for the Windsor Public Library. Now that we have some new lighting to play with, I’m hoping to actually cut together a nice video for YouTube, too. It used to be such a big endeavour to create video for web, but we’re doing it so often now. I feel like it’d be smart to start creating more videos! But realistically I’m probably just going to bake, read books, sleep (oh god, SLEEP) and chase an almost-two-year-old around the backyard!
