Hope the warm weather is treating you all well! I've updated the shows section, so if you're planning on coming out to a date, please double-check the start times and prices, as some have changed.
I spent Saturday recording Elevators, Mexico, and a new tune called Kinda Late - with strings! Kerianne Ryan, Eszter Horvath and Jenn Lau volunteered their time, talents, and string instruments to make it happen. Of course, arranger Raphael Roter was there to conduct, and did a great job. I'm hoping to have the tracks available to stream here within the next couple of weeks.
My next soiree of tunes in Halifax will take place on June 14th, starting at 7:00 with a house show at my place on Windsor Street (email me for address/RSVP info), and ending a couple blocks down North Street at Gus' Pub with Owen Steel (show starts at 10:00). Both shows are $8 each!

Updated the shows section! I'll be playing tomorrow at Tribeca (1588 Granville Street) with Dave MacMicheal (of the Danger Bees). Show starts at 10:00PM, and costs $6!
On the 20th, I'll be playing 1313 Hollis Street as a part of MARTSFEST, an annual showcasing of NSCC's Music Arts talent. Taking the stage will be Jenny MacDonald, Sweet Deals, some jazz and maybe even some accordion! Show starts at 7:00PM, price is TBA.
On June 11th, I'll be playing my first show in Tatamagouche, at the North Shore Rec Center (30 Blair Avenue) alongside Winnipeg's Crisis Jane and Port Hawkesbury's As We Stand. The show starts at 6:30 and costs $8.
On June 14th, I'll be hosting Crisis Jane at my place in Halifax on Windsor Street for an acoustic house show. The evening starts at 6:30 and costs $8. Merch and tasty treats will be available. Please email info@saveseptember.com for address and RSVP information. Access is limited!
Right after that, I'll be booking it to Gus' Pub (at Agricola and North) to play a set with Owen Steel. That evening'll start at 10:00PM, and will only set you back about five or six bucks.
Gonna be a busy time, huh!?

Craig Churchill is a fan of music - enough so that he's been putting together his own podcasts, called Halifax Music Hall. This week's edition features a tune by me, as well as some lovely plugging of my website and merchandise! Click here to check out the podcast on Craig's MySpace website, which also features Telfer, The Grass, and Snow Picnic! (And be sure to tune in regularly to hear more music from local up-and-coming artists.)

New layout on MySpace! Go check it out and tell me what you think.
Also, NEW SECTION on the site! This part of the site will be devoted to reviews, mentions, and other press.
I was featured on Halifax blog Herohill today. The following text is taken from the article, located here. You can also find it in the new press section. Thanks, Herohill!
Quick Hitters:: Save September
The best plans often go to waste... at least here on herohill. You see, with the re-launch and the unveiling of our new Halifax show listing calendar, I had the perfect segue to introduce you all to a nice song writer from our fair city. You see, Save September - aka Crissi Cochrane - was set to open up for Owen (read our interview with Mike here) at St. Matthew's Church.
I've been a fan of almost every incarnation of Mike Kinsella's music, but the stripped down, personal tracks he wrote under the Owen moniker were my favorite. The chance to play with Mike would have been a great launching pad for Crissi - especially since she was practicing with a string quartet - but sadly due to low ticket sales, Mr. Kinsella put the cobra-kaibosh on the show. Either way, some Save September coverage on the hill was long overdue.
Save September is yet another one of those folk artists that exists in the bubble that is the Halifax music scene. Some escape to bigger audiences and more attention (Ghost Bees, Fall Horsie!), but many just as talented toil in relative obscurity (Paper Beat Scissors and Dan Ledwell come to mind). Crissi's songs are more traditional in nature; the coffee shop ready picked chords and a pure voice carry most of the weight but even at a young age and on a DIY recording, she sophisticates the sound with subtle nuances like the swirl that ends Coming Home or the hand percussion and xylophones on Mexico.
For a singer in her early 20's, Crissi already seems comfortable with her sound and deftly handles the juxtaposition between the memories of her past and the imminent heartbreak that waits for us all as we grow up. She still holds onto some of the innocence of youth, but is growing up quickly and her songs will only get better as the road she travels becomes rockier and the soft side is hardened. Definitely an act to keep an ear on in '09.

The Owen Show on May 8th at St. Matthew's Church has been cancelled due to low ticket sales.
For all of you expecting to see me with a string quartet - this will still be happening. I'm hoping to put together a show later in the summer that will feature the lovely musicians who have agreed to volunteer their time and talents for the performance, as well as Raphael Roter, a talented and devoted arranger/conductor.
Also, I'll be heading out to Paul's Hall (12286 Peggy's Cove Road) in Glen Haven, NS on June 20th. A couple other dates are on hold for upcoming performances. Check out the upcoming shows section to find out when I'll be playing near you.
