One more update before the month ends!

I've been making these cute little felt coin pouches lately. The felt is made from recycled pop bottles. The back has a cute little button, and the inside is always lined with a second colour. Some of the other pouches have things like umbrellas, happyclouds (best one), fish, and raindrops! They're $10 each, and you can buy them in Halifax at the Clay Cafe on Quinpool Road. When you buy them, I can afford to eat! If you want one via mail, let me know (all those ones in the picture are still available) by emailing me: info(at)crissicochrane.com and we can work something out (like maybe just $2-3 for shipping?).

Mixing is all done for the album, it sounds awesome. Mastering on March 3rd with Bob Weston of Chicago Mastering Services!

I wrote a little song last week and thought I'd make a video of it for today's content. (It took me the whole day to get the audio and video to synch up, thus why I'm posting it at 10:00PM). It's a song about sewing (I've been doing a lot of that lately) and how much the days can run together sometimes.

Played a great show at Just Us! cafe tonight with Richard Lann and Erika Leblanc. Thanks so much to everyone for coming out!

Today's fun free content... I gave away a free copy of the Sampler CD to Roy Galpin of Trenton, ON!

He correctly answered the question, "Where am I playing on Monday, January 25, 2010?" The answer was Just Us! Cafe on Spring Garden Road (7:00PM, and it's a free show!).

I'll be running similar random contests in the future - you won't know exactly when they're going to happen, but I'll give you a heads-up of a day or so. Be sure to follow me on Twitter to hear about future giveaways!

And if you're bummed you didn't win, keep in mind that it's only $8 to buy the CD here on the site (and I'll still ship it anywhere in the world for no extra cost!).

Today: nostalgia! This is me and my "bff" Jeff Kingsbury covering A Day Late (by Anberlin) at a Variety Show in spring 2007 at Horton High School, where we were in twelth grade. (I'm actually ridiculously proud of us for this.)

January 18, 2010

Happy Monday! In the true spirit of the Sampler CD (originally made just to give away for free in Spring of 2009), you can now download all the tracks for free through the Store section of the site! Pretty neat, huh?

January 15, 2010

Wrote and recorded this song on Wednesday. Hope you enjoy! (It's pretty fuzzy because it's a home recording.) It's all mandolin and piano.

"Blame"

or, you can download it now!

Officially moved the website from www.saveseptember.com to www.crissicochrane.com! If you notice anything strange around the site, please let me know.

Today: wicked cover by a cute boy (mine)!

Mexico (cover by Simon Outhit; circa 2008)

You can hear more of his music on Myspace. Simon also plays in In This Style. Tomorrow: new recording by me?

January 12, 2010

Kinda Late is now available for free download! You can preview the song by hitting the "Play" button on the player in the top left corner of the frame, or download it by right-clicking the download link and choosing "Save target as". This version of the song was recorded in the summer in Dartmouth with Andrew Wiseman.

TOMORROW, I'll be putting a tune up for you guys to listen to - it's a rather punk/rock version of Mexico by my boyfriend Simon Outhit. It's from at least over a year ago, long before he acquired all of his sweet recording gear, but it still makes me smile! So come back tomorrow to check it out!

January 8, 2010

Here is the video footage Raph took at the Canterbury Music Company in downtown Toronto where Drew Jurecka (violins, viola) and cellist Amy Laing recorded parts for the new album.

So I'll be taking the weekend off; check back Monday for some new updates! Such as, Kinda Late will now be available for free download!

January 7, 2010

As promised, Coming Home is now available for free download! You can download it any time from the top left corner of the page under the player, or you can

download it here and now!
(right click, go to "Save target as")

This version of the song was recorded in August 2009 at Heartstring Productions here in Halifax (see picture of the isolation booth) and will be featured in an upcoming music video.

Tomorrow, be sure to stop by again; I'll be putting up new video footage of the recording of the strings in Toronto! There's even a little sneek peek in there, too. So get excited, and get back here tomorrow!

January 6, 2010

New show added to the shows section. I'll be playing at the Just Us! Cafe (5896 Spring Garden Road) here in Halifax on Monday, January 25th along with Richard Lann and Erika LeBlanc. This is the day after I'll be playing in Trenton, NS, so if you're in that general area, you should be sure to drop by!

RSVP on Facebook!
Monday, Jan 25th @ Just Us in Halifax - http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=244924467670
Sunday, Jan 24th @ Trenton Youth Centre in Trenton - http://www.facebook.com/#/event.php?eid=187916646460

And, check it out! Waye Mason (Halifax Pop Explosion pioneer; educator) mentioned me in The Coast's Scene and Heard section. Gamma Gamma Rays get a mention from Mike Wright and Mason, and good friends In This Style are noted by Mason and Josh Hogan (Diminished Fifth Records). It's the first time I've ever been mentioned outside of the Events section! (They know I exist! You have no idea how happy this makes me.)

Scene and Heard - Halifax cognoscenti talk about genres/bands they're excited to see in Halifax these days

Tomorrow, I'll be putting Coming Home up for free download (the version that plays in the top left corner of the frame here). So be sure to come back tomorrow!

Drunken campfire jams: what I'm all about.

"There's another verse? Really? How miserable can this get?"

This video was taken by Kate Fagan/Graham Scharf (I think the camera exchanged hands at some point?) at my family cottage in East Dalhousie, NS on August 2nd, 2009. (The weekend we shot the Mexico video!) My dad is singing and playing guitar, I'm singing when I remember to, and playing mandolin. This is after several drinks, on all accounts; we're forgetting words and just howling at the end. (Simon and I try to do harmonies, I think.)

Tonight I went to NSCC with Raph (string arranger for the upcoming album) to listen to the newly recorded string parts with the mixes! Sounds great. It's such a refreshing change after listening to MIDI strings forever (haha).

Upcoming in the free-content-machine: Videos Raph took during the string recording session in Toronto, all songs from the Sampler CD will slowly be put up for free download, and more!

Also, new Myspace banner/design!

Happy (belated) New Year!

Here's a song! I didn't write it, nor am I performing it, but the great appeal is that it's my dad playing it! I'm in the room, burbling nonsense (I think I'm about 4 years old or so) - dad and I would have jams where he'd play guitar and I'd sing about ponies and the colour pink. (Hope you don't mind dad! I can take it down..!)

You Are My Sunshine (performed by my daddy!)

I have a fun campfire video that I'll put up for you next time, so stay tuned!

Just thought I'd let you know that the string quartet parts have been recorded for the album. The parts, written by Raphael Roter, were performed by Drew Jurecka and cellist Amy Laing. Raph plays some sweet accordion in there too! The session was recorded at the Canterbury Music Company in Toronto, Ontario. Mixing should be done towards the end of the month, and then we're on towards mastering.

Also, in the very near future, you'll be able to pre-order the album online through THIS SITE (so keep checking back). I'm pretty sure the album's gonna go for somewhere beween $10 and $15. If you pre-order the album and are in the Halifax area (or don't mind driving into town), you'll be invited to a wicked, super exclusive listening party! It'll take place a week or two before the actual CD release, and everyone who attends will leave with the new album in their hands, and a glass of wine in their stomach (you lucky dog you!). PS: If you have some kind of awesome media hook-up, like, you write for a blog/newspaper or host a radio program, please email me and you just might be able to come to the party for free!

December 30, 2009

It's almost resolution time! Last year I decided that every year henceforth, I would try to do something to improve my health. So far I'm doing a decent job at failing that one. So at least, for the world of crissicochrane.com, I'm going to make a point of putting more free content for download up online. This last month has been pretty full of pictures and videos and news, so hopefully it's a good sign of things to come!

On this note, here's a new song!

"Trains"

or, you can download it now (right click; "Save target as")

It's the first song I've recorded at home on a laptop (and put online) in over a year now. I guess with this whole "tons of new content! lots of home recordings!" idea, there'll be lots of apologies, so off the top: I don't really have a working mic cord (for now), so the vocals were recorded through the laptop microphone (ha). Also, there's a couple random spots where you'll hear something incredibly strange happen - I more or less know what that is, but I'm too lazy to fix it. Got the idea for this one with all the planes and trains and reunions I've been seeing over the last month.

edit: sorry, the mandolin just doesn't tune. if you'd like to assist in the correction of this problem, please locate the "donate" bottom on the bottom right side of the frame to the Crissi-Cochrane-needs-a-mandolin-that-isn't-from-ebay fund.

edit 2: this was written and then recorded over a span of five hours on the evening of December 29, 2009.
