My album "Darling, Darling" is number one on CJAM 99.1fm in Windsor/Detroit tonight! Check out the chart online here!

March 23, 2011

The album is OFFICIALLY ON iTUNES with all of the correct tracks! Songs are 99 cents each, or $7.92 for the whole album.

This is my last update for a few days - I'm going to Toronto tomorrow. I'll be attending the Junos on Sunday night, and several great events leading up to the big night. I'll be tweeting nonstop, surely - be sure to follow @CrissiCochrane for all the juicy details!

March 22, 2011 (part 2 - 8:00PM)

Voting ends tomorrow for CJAM 99.1fm's annual Jammy Awards! If I win Best Local Musician, Windsor gets a free show and four dozen free cupcakes. I'm sad the voting is ending so soon - I made this cute little advert with cupcakes on it and didn't get to use it :(

Vote online here! Be sure to answer at least three questions for your ballot to be valid. For best local venue, I recommend the Phog Lounge, Milk Coffee Bar, or Taloola Cafe. The awards show will be at the FM Lounge on April 1st.

The proper mix of Coming Home has not yet been uploaded to iTunes. I've decided that it isn't that much of a crisis.... hopefully the right track will be up there soon though.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, read the post below.

March 22, 2011 (part 1 - 2:00AM)

One of the things about being an independent solo artist is that sometimes you are alone, pulling your hair out, feeling crazier than a bag of wet mice, trying to figure out what to do when you mess something up.

Welcome to 2AM, CD release on iTunes day. I noticed that I have mistakenly submitted an old mix of "Coming Home" to iTunes. This track includes a lap steel part that we had painstakingly removed late in the production of Darling, Darling. I had to pay money for that damn re-mix, so by god, you're going to get the damn re-mix.

So, I'm hoping to have the proper track up within the next 24-48 hours! You can buy the album right now if you like, and consider the lap-steel version of Coming Home as your very own exclusive little bit of data history, or you can save your 99 cents and wait on that one for a few days.

I'll post as soon as it's all fixed! Time for bed!

Yesterday, I sent out my second newsletter. I try to send em only once a month, so I'm not annoying anybody. Feel free to check it out online, and subscribe in the box on the right hand side of this page if you'd like the news right to your inbox! In this letter: Darling, Darling on iTunes, Coming Home in the CBC Radio 3 Podcast, upcoming live on-air performance on CJAM, and upcoming Windsor show on April 3 at Milk.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT - my album, Darling, Darling, will be available on iTunes as of March 22, 2011 - this coming Tuesday! (Or within 24-48 hours of them if things get wonky somehow.)

Tracks will be $0.99, and the whole album will be $7.92 (unless again, things get wonky somehow). I'm sorry that this didn't happen sooner! I was relying on someone else, but it turns out, you can indeed get your music on iTunes by yourself! And sometimes, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. Yes, that was a subtle jab.

MEDIUM ANNOUNCEMENT - I will be performing live on CJAM 99.1fm in Windsor/Detroit on Monday, March 21, at 11:00am! You can tune in online at www.cjam.ca.

SMALL ANNOUNCEMENT - Darling, Darling is also now available at Dr. Disc in Windsor, Ontario (471 Ouellette Ave) for $12. So, if you can't make it out to a show sometime, you can grab the CD there! The local section is pretty decent, so I recommend a good look-through!

Operation: CUPCAKES FOR THE GET UP KIDS was a success. At first I realized I had no idea how to go about completeing my mission. My friend Katie figured it would be smart to ask the merch kids, who told me Matt would be out to talk to fans afterwards.

So pumped!

So, the cupcakes sat in my bag through the night, only getting sort of displaced. It was an incredible show. They played pretty much every song I could have ever wanted them to: Holy Roman, Campfire Kansas, Mass Pike, and more than half of Something To Write Home About. It was very clear when a song was new - the audience looked a bit subdued, bobbing along but not singing. Then they'd immediately pivot back to a classic anthem and the entire audience would sing along. It was so wonderful to just be in a room full of people singing.

Afterwards, I met Matt and Jim at the merch table and gave them my cupcakes. I didn't tell them about the CD in the bottom (I tried to, but it was loud, I don't think they heard me). Matt and Jim are super friendly. They asked if there was hash in the cupcakes and pretended to be dismayed when I said I couldn't get any. Jim said he liked my glasses! He got me a free poster in exchange for the cupcakes! He asked if it was okay to keep my tupperware! (Of course.) When we told him we were from Canada, he said we must be, because Candians are so chill. I picked up a copy of their new LP There Are Rules in VINYL for some reason, although I don't even own a record player, and so far I've been keeping it in my sock drawer to protect it from EVERYTHING. Jim said he's always wanted to do a Canadian tour (!!!).

I contemplated sleeping next to it.

Did they eat all the cupcakes? Did they read my superfan letter? Did they see my CD? Did they notice that Bob Weston (who mastered There Are Rules) also mastered my album? Will they someday do a Canadian tour!? I may never know! But the moral of the story is, I think I might do this more often. If there's one thing my Halifax friends have taught me, it's that cupcakes do wonderful, wonderful things.

Operation: CUPCAKES FOR THE GET UP KIDS.

I have loved The Get Up Kids for years. They were the soundtrack to some of the best times I had, growing up. I always wanted to see them live, and when they broke up a few years ago, I thought I'd never get another chance to see them. I thus decreed that if I should ever become president of anything, my first order of business would be to demand a reunion show.

Fortunately for me, they got back together! They're from Kansas and not big on playing Canada a whole lot, so I had no chance to see them on the East Coast. But now that I live just across the river from Detroit, I am FINALLY going to see them. I am giddy like a schoolgirl. I am so excited.

So I made them some cupcakes. I've never baked cupcakes for a band before. But I hear they're friendly guys! I don't even need to meet them. I just hope that my cupcakes make their way to them.

Fingers crossed! I will let you know the final status of the mission in the morning!

After the wonderfully packed show at Taloola, I'm pleased to announce that I'll be performing another all-ages show on Sunday, April 3rd! Accompanying me will be Mike Hargreaves. He'll soon be on the road with Michou, so this might be his last solo show until the summer! Not to mention - it'll be three days before my 22nd birthday. So, come party! Hang out!

Also, I painted that lion. :)
